IDEA TO ALBUM:
HYPE ACADEMY STANDARD WORKSHOP
A 2 HOUR WORKSHOP, CREATING A SONG FROM SCRATCH WITH AN ENTIRE GROUP OF STUDENTS.
A single Hype Academy Workshop is organized into three sections, condensing the informative and interactive portions together into a timely package.
Section 1: Introduction & Lecture: - Augie Ray introduces himself to the students, and outlines the basics of the music industry, songwriting, and music production.
Section 2: Team Activity: - Augie splits the room into four teams: Songwriters, Producers, Musicians, and Entrepreneurs. These teams write
ideas for their own song down on a poster, based on their team’s role in the music world.
Section 3: Create A Song: - Based on the concepts that the groups present, Augie facilitates the students to take turns at his workstation to create a song from scratch together, starting with drums, and ending with vocals.
“Hype Studios LA founder, Grammy award winning producer, and entrepreneur and artist, Augie Ray took our Dodson students on a journey of songwriting, producing, and performing all in a 2 period workshop… this was only the beginning of our students’ creative journey into music.”
Maria Whittington - LAUSD Region West Coordinator
TEAMWORK: By being split into groups, students experience firsthand what it is like to work together on a music project. They learn the importance of teamwork by elevating each other’s ideas to create an improved outcome.
CREATIVITY: This experience allows students to discover and cultivate their own creativity. The activities they participate in will introduce the idea of applying their creativity to different fields.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Augie will establish the importance of viewing your craft as a business, no matter what career you chose, and introduce the concept of networking, as it is never too early to learn how to build connections
